I like to draw and paint for other people. The process is fun for me too, because it helps me to sit and appreciate a cityscape or natural place. Painting has especially helped me to appreciate the wonderful buildings and scenes of Athens and the University of Georgia.

My favorite medium is pen and ink with watercolors. I like these because I can do a 'finished' painting on-site, outside. Painting has become an important part of my travels in fact. My trips to Central Mexico and Montana illustrate that.

I started drawing and painting in 1998 while I was a graduate student in Raleigh, North Carolina. Since then, I have taken numerous drawing and watercolor classes from NC State's art center, the Wake County art center, the Georgia Center, and most recently at the Lyndon House Art Center and OCAF in Watkinsville.

I was born in Michigan, raised in Harrisburg, PA, and lived in North Carolina for 5 years where I taught high school and got a masters degree. My wife and I have a beautiful son named Abraham who died in July of 2002. Our daughter Violet was born in February of 2004. We live in Athens with two dogs (Oreo and Panda) and two cats (Little Debbie and Domino) and have a studio in our home (call 706-546-4703 for appointments).

While in Athens, I taught science at Oglethorpe County High School before entering the UGA as a full-time doctoral student in Science Education. I have been exploring painting as a research tool and as an alternative method of teaching and learning science. My dissertation focused on using the visual arts to learn science in elementary school, and I received my Ph.D. in May, 2005.
